I’m Jenna, a 20 -something year old college student in her sixth year at a university. I laugh way too much, have multiple, tiny sneezes, love to write, and live to read. You might say I like odd things–or at least that I have an appreciation for them, but every once in a while pop culture seeps into my interests and tries its damnedest to corrupt it. I won’t say I haven’t given in…in fact, more often than not I’ve probably succumbed in some way, shape, or form, but I find it fascinating to look at the truly bizarre things our culture latches onto. Or maybe these things latch onto us. But isn’t everything at least a little bizarre?
Isn’t everything, when looked at closely, a strange commentary on what we enjoy, desire, need, or loathe? Don’t we love to hate, or hate to love things? As a culture we spend a lot of time creating monsters, constructing heroes, and denying those things that mirror our souls a little too closely. What is it about certain strange art, literature, celebrities, tv shows, movies, what have you, that we identify with or irresistibly away from? What, indeed.
